Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to believe in Homeopathy?

No belief is required. None. The only action needed by the patient is to take the prescription. Homeopathic RemediesHomeopathy can be prescribed for children and animals too. They have no active concept of "belief" that they will recover, or that the specific medicine will make them better.

Isn't it just a placebo effect?

Most patients who are new to homeopathy come because conventional medicine has been tried & has failed. If these patients only required a placebo, or the suggestion that a pill would make them well (any pill), then their original prescription from conventional medicine would have already done that for them. It would have already worked. It didn't. When they come to homeopathy, most actually don't expect it to work. It is a last resort.
There is research evidence that there is an entirely different effect from placebo after taking a homeopathic remedy, and, if you would find that useful, you can read about it here.
Editorially however, I don't believe that it is a placebo effect, and neither does my dog.
To understand the subtle yet specific differences between the remedies takes years of practice. This is why Professional Homeopaths study for 4 years and also why self-prescribing often fails. People take the wrong ones, in the wrong way.

We spend the time to get the right remedy for you, because it is required.

Should I stop taking my medicines?
Head made from Pills

No, homeopathy can be used alongside conventional medicines.

Don't stop taking conventional medicines without discussion with your doctor or other medical professional who has prescribed them.

How does Homeopathy work?

Homeopathy is based on the principle that "Like cures Like". The homeopath prescribes remedies on the basis of the symptoms that are the most individual, i.e. the things that make the patient special, unique & different.

I am happy to explain how homeopathy works to you in person, at your appointment.

As long as your Homeopath understands how Homeopathic remedies work, and they have taken your case, then they understand what you need. Never be afraid to ask questions - I really enjoy discussing these points with my patients.

You don't need to believe in it, you can try it for yourself and make up your own mind.

What happens at a Consultation?

When you come for a homeopathic appointment, we take the time to talk about you, your health and your concerns. The first consultation will take between an hour to an hour and a half.

Come for a Consultation

It can be very useful if you can find out about your family health history before you come along as this may be relevant to your case.

Based on the  information that we have discussed, I will prescribe the remedy that is best suited to the symptoms that you have described.

The remedies can be made from plants, minerals or animal substances. They are diluted many times and succussed strongly.

Are Homeopathic Remedies tested?

Homeopathic remedies have been tested for hundreds of years in a process called a Homeopathic Proving, by testing them on normal, healthy people. These testers kept taking the remedy until it began to produce symptoms which they carefully recorded.

Each remedy produced the same or similar individual symptoms in the different testers, although they had had no contact with each other, like in a conventional medical trial. That's how it was discovered what each remedy could do.
Homeopathy works on the principle that like cures like.
This means that the remedy that produced those symptoms in a healthy person in the tests, can help to treat a sick person who has those same symptoms through illness.

How is a Homeopathic Remedy made?

Homeopathy is very precise. Homeopathic remedies are made by energising molecules through a process called succussion. Starting with the raw substance, each remedy is made by diluting then shaking violently, then diluting, then shaking.

The more dilute, the stronger the potency of the final remedy.

That doesn't sound very likely...Yes, it can seem counter-intuitive at first. However, that also happens in conventional medicine - Penicillin was developed using bread mould. As a patient, you might not know how that works, but do you need to in order to get well?

As long as your Homeopath understands how Homeopathic remedies work, and they have taken the time to take your case, then they understand what you need.

The remedies used in my practice are sourced from professional Homeopathic pharmacies.
